Agronomic Potential of Avocado-Seed Biochar in Comparison with Other Locally Available Biochar Types: A First-Hand Report from Ethiopia

چکیده

Biochar is a promising option for improving soil fertility and agricultural productivity. The potential of biochar specific purposes depends on its physical chemical characteristics. avocado seed widely available as leftover after the fleshy part used food byproduct avocado-oil producing agro-industries in Ethiopia. Its an agronomic purpose has not been studied. objective this study was to compare avocado-seed (ASB) type comparison other types produced from locally feedstocks at two selected pyrolysis temperatures (450 550°C). It identified that mass-base, yields were range 29.68 47.45%, higher ASB pyrolyzed 450°C. scanned images showed remarkable surface morphology bamboo (BB) ASB. bulk density biochars 0.21 0.49 g/mL. highest volatile matter measured BB-450°C, fixed carbon BB-550°C, ash content BB-450°C. mean pH values 9.1 11.3. ASB-450 550°C exhibited nutrient content. cation exchange capacity (CEC) recorded ASB-450°C; organic (OC) corncob (CCB) followed by 550°C. calcium carbonate (CaCO3) ASB-550°C second-highest value next coffee husk (CHB). In study, BB found have important qualities degraded soils terms acidity, content, fertility. Therefore, ASB-450°C BB-450°C can be suggested candidates reclaiming acid-soils nutrient-depleted infertile into agriculturally productive soils.

Biochar: Agronomic and environmental potential in Brazilian savannah soils

Due to the high activity of microorganisms, the loss of soil organic matter is high in tropical regions. This loss becomes even greater if the soil is managed improperly or when there is no technology that leverages the permanence of the soil carbon by maintaining appropriate levels of organic matter, providing chemical, physical and biological soil improvements and contributing to reduce CO2 e...

Biochar: a synthesis of its agronomic impact beyond carbon sequestration.

Biochar has been heralded as an amendment to revitalize degraded soils, improve soil carbon sequestration, increase agronomic productivity, and enter into future carbon trading markets. However, scientific and economic technicalties may limit the ability of biochar to consistently deliver on these expectations. Past research has demonstrated that biochar is part of the black carbon continuum wi...

Particulate matter emissions from biochar-amended soils as a potential tradeoff to the negative emission potential

Novel carbon sequestration strategies such as large-scale land application of biochar may provide sustainable pathways to increase the terrestrial storage of carbon. Biochar has a long residence time in the soil and hence comprehensive studies are urgently needed to quantify the environmental impacts of large-scale biochar application. In particular, black carbon emissions from soils amended wi...

Properties of biochar derived from wood and high-nutrient biomasses with the aim of agronomic and environmental benefits

Biochar production and use are part of the modern agenda to recycle wastes, and to retain nutrients, pollutants, and heavy metals in the soil and to offset some greenhouse gas emissions. Biochars from wood (eucalyptus sawdust, pine bark), sugarcane bagasse, and substances rich in nutrients (coffee husk, chicken manure) produced at 350, 450 and 750°C were characterized to identify agronomic and ...

Atrazine leaching from biochar-amended soils.

The herbicide atrazine is used extensively throughout the United States, and is a widespread groundwater and surface water contaminant. Biochar has been shown to strongly sorb organic compounds and could be used to reduce atrazine leaching. We used lab and field experiments to determine biochar impacts on atrazine leaching under increasingly heterogeneous soil conditions. Application of pine ch...
